1 to 1 Mentoring General Meeting 2020

This year’s meeting was a wonderful success. Although we miss seeing everyone in person, we had
great attendance during the zoom conference! Next year, we plan to have an in person conference and dinner like we used to in the past. To start off this year’s meeting we were introduced to our
Executive council. They are Daryl Hall who is our Chair, Desi Martinez who is Vice Chair, our Executive Treasurer Michelle Specia and our Council Secretary Martin Maldonado. Our additional council mem￾bers are David Doan, Gloria Casillas and Melissa Villarreal.

This year’s focus will be on recruiting new mentors. We are especially in need of male mentors who can have a positive impact on our male youth. The council will also continue their fund raising to provide
enrichment opportunities for our youth in the program. We are very excited to see what this year has in store, but we couldn’t do it without the help of our VIP Council. Thank you for serving the at risk youth of Bexar County.

Many other mentoring programs discontinued services during the pandemic, but our program continued to match children with mentors. We are so proud of our 1to1 mentoring program and our council was a
big part of that success! In these trying times our children, more than ever, need supportive and caring adults to guide and assist them. Through our website, social media and word of mouth we continue to
receive applications from individuals who are interested in becoming mentors! We hope to increase our mentor recruiting this year and our council will play an integral part of that effort! We also acknowledged the many donors who gave of their hearts, time and money to help make this program a success! We were blessed with donations from volunteers, mentors and corporate sponsors.

During the VIP Annual Meeting we also highlighted our Goals for the coming year. Our main goal is to increase our volunteer pool, which in turn, will allow us to increase our mentoring matches. In order to accomplish this, we plan to work with our VIP Council, community partners, local colleges, universities and supportive businesses. We also hope to bring back our family fun days, which are amazing, where all our volunteers, our mentees and their families can come together for a day of fun, food and fellowship. However, if we are not able to come together in the near future, we will look for innovative ways and ideas to provide activities for our mentees and mentors.
